Jacqueline Hylkema is based at the Leiden University Institute for Cultural Disciplines, where she is preparing a PhD dissertation on the relationship between deception (textual forgery in particular) and the discourse of illusion in the imitative arts between 1600 and 1750.

She specializes in the cultural and intellectual history of Britain, the Netherlands and France in the early modern period, with a particular interest in rhetoric (visual as well as textual), iconography, philology, cultural criticism and the dissemination and representation of early Enlightenment ideas.
